The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has said the floods being witnessed in Nairobi’s South C Estate is a perennial heavy rains ramification, and not a result of construction of the Southern bypass.

KeNHA said there was no storm water flowing from the Southern bypass road that was directed towards South C or any estate along the bypass.

The authority also said South C Estate is generally on a low level than the bypass road, and it is only natural for storm water to flow towards lower areas.

South C residents on Friday held demonstrations along the Nairobi Southern bypass near Ole Sereni, after floods wreaked havoc in the estate.

KeNHA said the root cause of the problem should be thoroughly investigated.

“This is the usual perennial flooding that occurs in South C area whenever there are heavy storms. Being a perennial problem, root cause should be investigated and blame not apportioned to the nearly completed construction of the southern bypass,” said the Authority on Saturday.

KeNHA further urged motorists plying the bypass to obey traffic signs provided, and to observe courtesy as road works near completion.
