Soy Developers Limited has vowed to appeal a case in which former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo is linked to a Sh50 million fraud case linked to retired president Daniel arap Moi’s son, Jonathan.
This is after the High Court stopped the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko from prosecuting Jirongo with fraud after he argued that the case was a political propaganda.
Co-directors of the company, Sammy Boit and wife Antoinette said the case was unlawfully dismissed, according to the Star. They said justice George Odunga dismissed the case before hearing evidence from witnesses.
According to the complainants, police officers conducted in depth investigations into the case and forwarded files to the DPP, who then recommended that Jirongo be charged in Court.
In the case, it is alleged Jirongo committed fraudulent offences in relation to a parcel of land in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area between 1992 and 2016, and was to be charged for fraud and forgery of a title deed.
The ex-MP however maintained he bought the land at Sh20 million in 1992 but later added Sh7 million to the initial cost to the Boits, who he alleged were Jonathan's proxies, paying a total of Sh27 million for the land.
