Thika nominated MCA Florence Ngeru has urged women  in the area to report cases of gender violence perpetuated against them to enable the police to take action against the perpetrators.

The MCA observes that many women are being abused and are suffering in silence. She said that gender violence against women is still rife in most parts of the country.

She noted that only a few women speak against the abuse.

“Women should not fear and must speak out against people violating their rights,” she said. The MCA also called for review of gender violence laws noting that the laws are favouring perpetrators instead of protecting victims.

She said that gender violence against women violates their rights.

Ms Ngeru also asked the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure that perpetrators of gender violence are dealt with accordingly.

The MCA also called on women organizations and leaders to organize for awareness campaigns that will help women speak out against the violence.
