Members of the Kisumu County Assembly have accused Speaker Anne Adul of colluding with the County government to frustrate their oversight role.
The MCA's complaints come after they were barred from attending meetings at the County's City Hall following ongoing renovations at the assembly chamber.
Their efforts to find entry into the hall were futile after scores of County askaris barred them from accessing the area. Anti-riot police officers were forced to intervene into the matter after chaos broke out.
Led by Nyakach Central Elijah Omondi, the MCA's faulted the speaker of allegedly working with area governor, Jack Ranguma to prevent them from playing their role.
“We are shocked to find the gates of the City Hall closed. We were shown a fake letter indicating that the Assembly had adjourned. The Speaker, Anne Adul, is being used by executive to frustrate the operations of this Assembly,'' said Omondi.
The leaders also accused the County executive for infiltrating the Assembly Service Board with close friends and relatives.
Omondi further said the executive no longer had money to run the County affairs.
“The executive is bankrupt and they are looking for Assembly funds. They have closed the House accounts which is subjecting MCAs to hardship. We cannot get allowances,” he said.
