[Photo: thikatowntoday.co.ke]Gatuanyaga Ward MCA Joseph Kahira has failed in his bid to take the position of the leader of the minority in the Kiambu County Assembly.Kahira, 26, beat all odds to win the ward representative seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket against the strong Jubilee Party wave that swept all the other MCA seats in the populous county. In his decision, assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu said Maendeleo Chap Chap did not meet the requisite constitutional threshold to produce the minority leader."To qualify to be a minority leader, the opposition party must have a five percent representation in the House," Ndichu noted.Kahira recently claimed that his life was in danger after unknown people trailed him since he was declared the winner. He consequently appealed to the authorities to provide him with security. The MCA is a former hawker who traded on coffee drinks around Muguga area in Thika.
