The Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly Beatrice Elachi has given a strong indication that the ruling Jubilee Party may block the dramatic nomination of controversial lawyer and socio-political commentator Miguna Miguna.
According to Miss Elachi, embattled Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi had not been fair to the Jubilee Party supporters who had flocked to polling stations to vote for the party.
She said that as the speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly, she would guide the process and that Jubilee MCAs who command a majority would determine how the fate of the nomination.
''I think I am saying what happens when you are in a political party. I mean, Jubilee is the one that is ruling the county assembly. So whoever nominee he's gonna face, the majority would be Jubilee. So it is important for them to have their party telling them, this is our nominee so you can't let us down. But if you just bring it, it means that you are putting the county into a very awkward scenario,'' Miss Elachi said.
She was speaking on Thursday in Nairobi at her office.
She questioned the fairness of Sonko's decision to Jubilee supporters.
The former MP asked the press to look into the procedure that was followed by Nyeri to get a deputy governor.
Miguna's dramatic nomination Wednesday evening took many Kenyans by surprise who have been reacting to the blindsiding development.
