Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro on Wednesday ordered a probe into the heavy deployment of police officers at Parliament Buildings prior to Wednesday’s special sitting.
The speaker directed the House National Security Committee to start investigating the matter and then table a report to the House.
“This is not a police state. This is a democracy,” he said after several requests to adjourn over insecurity and intimidation fears.
“The instructions were very clear that we don’t need any police presence. Even today when I came in and I saw (police), I called the Cabinet secretary for Interior (Joseph Nkaissery),” he added.
