[Photo|Ali Hassan Joho]The finals of the 1st ever Mombasa County Assembly Speaker’s Cup came to a close on Saturday at the new Uwanja wa Mbuzi Stadium in Kongowea.The final match was a showdown between Mtongwe Ward from Likoni Sub-county and Shanzu Ward from Kisauni Sub-county The pilot tournament that was sponsored by Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri will be made an annual league according to Governor Ali Hassan Joho. He said the tournament was organised to provide a more competitive platform for the youth to exhibit their talents for scouting, keeping them positively engaged during the festive season as well as helping them abstain from social vices.The two-weeks tournament had a total of 32 teams participating, 30 of them coming from all the wards within Mombasa County and additional 2 teams from orphans and Street Children.The winners of the tournament were Shanzu ward who trounced Mtongwe ward 2-1 to take home Sh300,000. Mtongwe ward finished 2nd and collected Sh150,000 ."The County Government of Mombasa will continue to support and Partner with well-wishers to uplift sporting talent within the County," said Joho.Joho, his deputy William Kingi, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, Woman Representative and County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri led other leaders to the event to witness a thrilling final match.
