Kilifi County Assembly Speaker Jimmy Kahindi has said that he is living at the mercy of God following the withdrawal of his security detail under unclear circumstances.
"At the end of the day, we are all under the mercy of God. The person who made the call to recall the security must have had reasons which are not known to me," he said.
Speaking in an interview with The Star Newspaper on Monday, Kahindi confirmed that his a security officer assigned to him had been instructed to surrender his firearm in Malindi, and wait for further instructions.
"I had only one security officer at the time he was called. So far, I have not been contacted by any authority," Kahindi noted.
He, however, said that he will not contest the decision, and will be instead focus on delivering on his mandate as the Kilifi Speaker.
"If he or she feels it is necessary for me to have my security back, they will return. I will not contest the decision. I am keen on delivering my mandate to the public," he said.
The withdrawal of Kahindi's security detail comes barely days after that of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi was withdrawn.
