[Photo| Soft Kenya]Kenya National Examinations Council has said special examinations for candidates who get ill or suffer other calamities such losing relatives during national examinations will be implemented in 2018.This follows a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to have special tests for affected candidates. KNEC chairman George Magoha said the council was studying the president's proposal and will work out modalities of implementing it.Magoha noted that it was not possible for the proposal to be executed this year since this year's examination cycle was about to end. “Since we are coming to the end of this year’s examinations cycle and the candidates have done the papers, we can’t act retroactively; so, we will organise ourselves to roll out the proposal next year,” said Magoha as quoted by Daily Nation. “It is traumatic and unfair to candidates to do exams when they are hurting. We welcome the new move but, realistically, we agreed that it should start next year because this year’s exams are now gone.” Magoha added. Kenyatta issued the directive on Tuesday when Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i released the 2017 KCPE results.993,718 candidates sat for the exam while 10,000 missed it.
