Women, youths and people with disabilities have been urged to join groups in order to benefit from the Uwezo fund
Speaking on friday in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County Women Representative, Eusilah Ngeny challenged women to use the 30% tender allocation for these groups
“Women should not fear forming groups, since it will help them in improving their livelihood. Since its inception Uwezo fund has helped women turning them from being job seekers to job creators” she said.
Ngeny encouraged women and youths to start small businesses which she said are rewarding rather than always depending on scarce white-collar jobs. She reminded them that the fund is given to groups and not individuals.
She urged the government to be releasing the money on time for it to benefit women fully in improving their business.
Flora Cheptum, a nominated Member of the county assembly representing special interest groups, echoed Ngeny’s sentiments by challenging people with disabilities to come out in large numbers and register their groups since in the past regimes they had been sideline.
“Gone are the days when people with disabilities were seen as a burden and only survive on handouts. I urge them to do something instead of staying idle waiting for someone’s help since we can do even better when we unite,” she reiterated
