The government will open a special museum to document the events of the gruesome 2007 post-election violence.
Cabinet Secretary for Sports and cultural affairs Hassan Wario says that this is important in preserving the Kenyan history.
Speaking in Naivasha during an induction exercise of the National Museum Board, Wario added that they were already holding talks with the county governments to get historical events that transpired during that time.
“This was a defining moment in the Kenyan history. We want it to be captured in a unique way. We also want to tell the Kenyan history to the future generations,” he added.
Wario said they intend to carry out exhibitions on the same in the current museums. He added that they would also create heritage institutions in all the 47 counties.
“We have been rethinking the structure of museums and we want to make it relevant to all counties. The heritage institutions will at least help in training personnel who work in museums into knowing how to handle clients,” he added.
Acting chair of the board Ahmed Yassin said that they intend to make the museum relevant to the 21st century by ensuring that the National Heritage Act of 2006 is implemented fully.
“We intend to expand the knowledge of flora and fauna and incorporate them in the national museums. We also want to hold cultural festivals for each county in different museums and hence encourage people to preserve history,” he added.
Ali added that they will also create various exhibition centres in all counties.
