The school caters for the visually impaired students alongside their able-bodied colleagues.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday at the school compound, the school’s head teacher Rose Kisina said that due to the unavailability of modern toilets, the visually impaired pupils had to use pit latrines which are uncomfortable for them.

"We do not have modern toilets which the visually impaired students can use. They have been forced to use pit latrines which are used by other students,” she said.

She added, “This makes it hard for them to use the toilets. We are appealing to all the well-wishers to kindly assist us construct modern toilets to make learning and also the life of such students easier."

Kasina added that under the state integrated programme, 17 students who are blind together with others who have various disabilities have already been admitted at the school.

"The school has only 11 toilets which are supposed to be used by 1,040 pupils. This is very unhygienic and also a health hazard. We will be very grateful if we can find someone to assist us in the construction of the toilets," Kisina said.

Earlier, stakeholders called for funding to build the toilets following an incident where a student fell in the latrine where she was badly soiled.
