The traffic police unit in Thika town in conjunction with the county government have deployed speed testing machines to control movement in the area. This comes as a result of increased accidents in Thika town which are allegedly caused by speeding and reckless driving. According to the police, the machines are meant to reduce speeding and recklessness where drivers are expected to adhere to traffic rules and regulations. "We are doing everything in our capacity to curb this abrupt accidents and deaths caused by reckless drivers,” a police officer said. Drivers have also been warned not to drive while drunk and to use the right lanes while overtaking. George Mukuru the operation supervisor termed the move as called for and aimed at changing the situation on Thika roads. Residents of Thika have been excited by the move and embraced it with joy. "We thank the efforts of the county government and traffic police for the move that is scheduled to avert deaths in town, indeed the government wants to erase crimes," remarked Ann Wangeci a resident. The move comes after an accident along Uhuru highway almost claimed the life of a pregnant woman, who escaped death after a Nissan Matatu that was using the wrong lane, collided with a motor cyclist.
