The Center for Multiparty Democracy in a statement argued that the constitutional two thirds gender rule cases pending in courts should be hastened as 2017 polls are closer.

The organisation led by Omweri Angima noted that the Judiciary should speed the pace at which gender cases should be ruled before 2017 August  elections.

“We call upon the justice system to expedite the matters before it and to provide an advisory way forward that will take into consideration the pending election and the current limitations in time to avert a constitutional crisis,” read Angima's  statement.

"Women candidates traditionally are required to spend more resources than their male counterparts in order to overcome the prejudices against them as the perceived ‘weaker’ candidate," read the statement further.

CMD added that women should be allowed to seek elective positions in 2017 with equality.

Omweri was speaking during the organization's  meeting at Nairobi hotel.
