The government has been asked to speed up the construction of a dual carriageway at Salgaa Nakuru-Eldoret highway to curb accidents.

Nakuru nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Racheal Maru said the move will help curb accidents.

"A dual carriageway will help reduce accidents along the highway because the road will be opened up to give more space for trucks, lorries and PSVs to occupy," she said.

Maru said reckless drivers should be arrested and prosecuted.

"Police officers should not allow careless drivers endangering lives of people to operate on our roads. Any driver found violating road rules should be jailed to save lives," she added.

She urged travellers to raise alarm in case they suspect a driver is driving carelessly.

"Passengers and other road users should report to police drivers driving at high speeds and those driving while drunk to prevent accidents," Maru said.
