The Kenya National Union of Teachers national treasurer John Matiang'i has asked the Teachers Service Commission to speedily process teachers promotions in line with their academic credentials.
According to Matiang'i, a good number of teachers have never been promoted for years, while others, their salaries have remained the same despite having furthered their studies.
"How can a graduate teacher or even one with masters be in the same job group with a certificate or a diploma holder? It's wrong to misuse teachers who have sacrificed to upgrade their education standards," said the union official.
Matiang'i at the same time want the teachers' employer to ensure fairness in replacing tutors who have either retired or died.
