Kiambu traffic base commander Gabriel Mulei has raised the concern following increased road accidents on the road. He attributed the accidents to speeding and motorists ignoring basic traffic rules.

He added that some drivers flout traffic rules on the road and drive as if it is a double lane, endangering the lives of many.

Mulei said: “The road can be very dangerous, especially at night. It has a number of sharp curves and very steep slopes which are disregarded by some motorists. Some motorists do not even take into consideration that the road has no streetlights.”

He also noted that there have been a number of people being knocked down by speeding cars, especially near Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology. Mulei said that motorists should be extra vigilant in areas where there are schools.

The traffic boss also warned matatu drivers against speeding during rush hours. He said culpable drivers will be prosecuted for careless driving and endangering the lives of both passengers and pedestrians.
