Alex Kimanzi, 48, the driver, was from Thika town on Monday morning when he knocked down Patrick Mwangangi, who was crossing the road.

According to a witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Kimanzi was driving at a very high speed and tried to escape but the irate residents in partnership with the area police managed to apprehend him.

“The driver was speeding and when he knocked the child down, he tried to escape but the police in patrol were around who chased him and ordered him to stop,” he said.

The mother of the deceased, Sharon Njoroge, said that she had no idea that her son was across the road because she had earlier seen him within the homestead playing with his peers.

She cried for justice and urged the area police to follow up the matter and make sure the accused is brought to book.

Thika West OCPD Shadrack Maithya confirmed the incident, saying that the man was on a very high speed and was unable to control the vehicle when the accident occurred.

Maithya said that the boy has sustained serious injuries on his head due to the impact caused by the accident, resulting to his death.

The body was taken to Thika Level Five mortuary pending a post-mortem examination while the car was towed to Thika police station.

The accused is in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court today.
