Limuru MP John Kiragu has advised Kenyans to spend their money wisely over the festive season.
He particularly cautioned those who were beneficiaries of funds from the government against spending the money meant for investments in making merry.
Kiragu said Uwezo Fund, Kiambu Biashara Fund and money for the aged among others were meant to improve the economic status of the beneficiaries and also grow the country’s economy.
“Let us remain sober during the festive season and spend our money wisely. Money meant for development must not be used to make merry because most of the money given by government is in form of loans that must be repaid,” said the MP.
He also reminded parents that after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, their children would go back to school and would need stationery, pocket money, school fees, bus fare and uniforms.
However, Maina Kamau, a resident said, “I worked hard throughout the year, and it is time to party hard.”
Maina said there was time for everything including one enjoying time with friends. He said in a drunken stupor state.
He added that he was particularly waiting for the New Year celebrations to party even more.
Young men in Kiambu County have over the years been labelled as those who love to drink alcohol uncontrollably, drinking from morning to evening without engaging in economically viable activities.
