Private school owners in Mombasa have been asked to sponsor their teachers for continuous or refresher courses as the education system heads for a major revamp and upgrade.Changamwe sub-county quality assurance officer under the Ministry of Education Sylvester Wauye said the current education system in the country was changing and teachers in the private sector should embrace the new education trends.Speaking in Jomvu, Wauye said private and community schools within the constituency were playing an equivalent role of ensuring that children get a proper and quality education. He said the Ministry of Education was working towards ensuring all children whether in private or public schools receive quality education that will also enable them to nurture their talents.Wauye challenged teachers in private and community schools to ensure they get progressive training especially concerning the new education syllabus in the country.“At least by now you all understand that we are phasing out the old 8-4-4 education system so that we embrace the new 2-6-6-3 syllabus, we should all get prepared in achieving quality education in the county,” Wauye told teachers and other education stakeholders in the constituency.Wauye assured the private and community school managers that the new textbooks will also be available in various bookstores within Mombasa.“Unlike in public schools where textbooks are purchased by the government in private schools, the proprietors should work extra hard to ensure learning materials are available in their school,” he added.Wauye insisted on teachers to always upgrade their education levels so that they also get higher posts and manage schools in future as well.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
