A new survey has shown that majority of Kenyans do not have health insurance.
The survey that was conducted by Twaweza indicates that only 569 out of 1,783 Kenyans indeed have an insurance cover hence 68% of this population are not covered.
The report released at Uwezo officers in Nairobi on Thursday found 88 per cent are on the NHIF scheme, 31 per cent is covered by their employers while 4 per cent pay for insurance.
It also noted that that the high rate of unemployment was the main reason why many Kenyans are not covered and most did not have covers as they are too expensive.
The Sauti za Wananchi mobile phone survey was carried out from June 7 to 28 and involved 2,000 participants from several counties.
