“Since Sportpesa gained popularity in Kenya, it is now hard to see the youth gambling in casino. They are now using the casino as a joint to sit down and analyze games to bet,” Says Erick Nyaga who runs a casino.

They claim the youth, despite losing in betting would prefer the business than playing a pool game or the famous ‘karata’.

“Sports betting has gained popularity among the youth due to the fact that it does not need a lot of effort and in some cases has ‘promising’ returns such as the jackpot. One does not have to strain all day playing and gambling. It is quick money," Says Peter Nyangau who works at a casino.

He added that this encourage laziness and lack of creativity.

“Games like pool and cards, dice enhances creativity and skills unlike betting which solely depends on luck that the team you chose would play well,” added Nyangau.

One of the youths confessed that since Sportpesa took root he no longer gambles  in Casinos unlike the past.

"Unlike the past where I had to strain and struggle to win a pool game or playing cards which at times turned out ugly especially in cases of unfairness, Sportpesa is better off for its all about the teams playing," said Ezekiel Okoyo.
