Sportpesa has once again stretched its hand in local sports, after launching the SportPesa Shield Tournament.
The tournament will see a total of 64 teams, drawn from all the five tiers, compete for the top honors, in a tournament that will last close to 5 months.
This replaces the GOTv shield tournament that has been in existence for the past couple of years, with AFC Leopards being the title holders.
The tournament will feature 13 from the SportPesa Premier League (SPL), nine from the National Super League, 15 from Division One, 10 from Division Two and 17 from branches league.
“The tournament shall kick off on 1st June 2018 with the final match scheduled to be played on Saturday, 20th October 2018,”
“SportPesa, the leading gaming company in the country entered into a sponsorship agreement with the Federation for the tournament, a 3-year deal that saw the FKF Cup rebranded to the SportPesa Shield Tournament,” Football Kenya Federation stated on Monday.
The tournament will officially kick off on June 1st (Madaraka Day) and end on October 20th (Mashujaa Day) celebrations.
AFC Leopards are the current champions, having beaten Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 in the final in 2017.
