Kenya Football Federation (FKF) main sponsor, Sportpesa will pay a bigger chunk of new Harambee Stars Coach salary.

61 year old Belgian Paul Put was over the weekend unveiled as Harambee Stars coach, with a huge amount of his monthly salary set to be paid by betting firm.

The betting firm is one of FKF’s major sponsors.

Soka has quoted FKF President Nick Mwendwa saying the company will chip in with ¾ of the Belgian's salary with the remaining quarter expected to be filled by the government.

“I have to thank Sportpesa for coming on board to pay our coach’s salary. They will be chipping in with ¾ of the total amount and we have contacted the government to chip in with the rest and we expect a positive response,” Mwendwa is quoted by Soka.co.ke.

However, the FKF President declined to reveal the amount the Belgian will be earning monthly.

"What the coach is going to earn is a secret but he is going to be well paid like other top coaches in Africa. The fact that he had to leave his job at USM Alger which was paying him better than us, shows the commitment he has in this job," he said.

The new coach signed a two year contract over the weekend. His first assignment will be the CECAFA senior challenge to be hosted by Kenya between December 3, and December 17, 2017.

Former Stars coach Stanly Okumbi is now an assistant to the Belgian.
