Gaming firm SportPesa has withdrawn all local sports sponsorship in Kenya with immediate effect.
This is due to the 35 percent corporate tax on betting firms imposed by the government.The withdrawal will affect football clubs in the country, rugby, boxing, rallying and basketball.Some of the main teams that were sponsored by Sportpesa are: Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Kenya Rugby 7s, Kenya Women’s, Kenya XVs, and Kenya Harlequins.Sportpesa on Tuesday said it will also slash media advertising to stay afloat.
