Sports Cabinet Secretary nominee Rashid Achesa has promised to introduce a sports academy in every constituency should he sail into the cabinet.
Appearing before the parliamentary vetting committee at the parliament buildings Friday, Achesa whose name was fronted by President Uhuru Kenyatta, said the proposal will improve sports in the country.
''I will form a committee in every constituency and with their help, we will be able to introduce sports academies to nurture talents,'' he said.
Achesa, a former boxer, also pledged to save the ministry which has in the past been riddled with corruption and poor management puzzles, best witnessed during the last Olympics.
He said that being a sportsman himself, he will give his all towards ensuring that sportspeople rip big out of their talent.
''Myself, being a sportsman, I have worn that shoe and I know how it fits and pinches. I am aware that most of our sportsmen are languishing in poverty because of poor management and I pledge to address this.
With regards to Kenya being recently stripped off rights to host CHAN championships, Achesa pledged to address the contributing factors.
''I have established that the main reason behind our inability to host CHAN was poor stadia. I will source for funds from both the central government and sponsors to improve our pitches and ensure that we hold future championships,'' he said.
