The president said they intend to increase the total sponsorship package of the event from 1million euros to 2.2million Euros which will see the country join the main European Tour for the first time.

The move will see Kenya join other African rounds including Johannesburg Open, AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, Trophee Hassan II and BMW SA Open hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni.

However, the decision did not auger well with many sports fans, who have questioned the president’s commitment on improving sports.

It is remembered that the country lost the rights to host the CAF Nations’ tournament after it turned out that there were no right structures put in place.

This included unfinished stadia which were to host the tournament, with Morocco hosting the continental showpiece.

Others have questioned the priority of the government in developing popular games in the country, with football clubs struggling to pay players and cater for other needs.
