A group comprising former Kenyan internationals have teamed up with former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya to set up a Sports Stars Foundation (SSF) aimed at empowering retiring and retired sports personalities.
Other objectives of the foundation will be to work towards making sports an income generating venture through the various sports disciplines.
The foundation will equally be open to all sports personalities in whatever disciplines, both active and retired to form a savings and credit organizations with an aim of providing financial solutions to sportsmen and women.
Among the constellation of retired stars behind the noble drive include Joe Kadenge Allan Thigo, Rashad Shedu, Josiah Ougo, Mickey Weche and Josephat Murila.
Others are former Harambee Stars coach Marshal Mulwa, John Bobby Ogolla, George Sunguti, George Waweru, Abdulla Shakir, Mahammoud Abbas, Elly Adero, Victor Onyango and John Nyawanga.
The move to form the Foundation has largely been driven by the plight that retired sports personality go through especially on matters health and financial assistance.
Quite a number of the country's sports personalities have had their fair share of tribulations especially after their gracious days with some being forced to ask for handouts from Kenyans while others also continue to languish in abject poverty.
The foundation will have Nyamweya as its patron following a unanimous decision while Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) founder Bob Munro is one of the advisors.
