The consultative meeting between the Ministry of Sports and Sports Federations sponsored by betting companies has been postponed indefinitely, reports Citizen Digital.Sports Principal Secretary Amb. Kirimi Kaberia had summoned affected unions and federations following the decision by a leading gaming firm to cancel all local sponsorships.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) were among those hardest hit by the withdrawal fueled by heavy tax levied on the sector by the Government.
Implementation of the law on taxation of betting and gaming companies came into effect this month with the company taking the drastic counter-measure of pulling out of local sponsorship deals.Kaberia confirmed to the local daily that the meeting has been put off to an unspecified later date.
