Speaking on Monday at the village, Kepha Otachi who led the delegation following invitation by area Chief Francis Rasugu to assess the situation said continued using of water from the spring may lead to diseases such as typhoid or Cholera.

He asked residents to obey the directive as a way of preventing the likely spring of the aforementioned perilous diseases even as local elders looked for a viable solution.

“We have done enough assessment and there is a likelihood of people contracting dangerous diseases such as typhoid or even cholera. The proximity of the toilet to the water source confirms it,” he said.

“As residents, you have to take precautions for your own good. It is important also to note that elders have agreed to solve the issue since it’s beyond our jurisdictions,” he said.

Francis Rasugu said the burden remained on local elders to persuade the owner of the toilet Alfred Mogire to relocate the facility since it was in his land.

“I call upon elders to persuade Mogire to relocate the facility because no one has power to forcibly evict him. It must be purely his decision since he is also a beneficiary of the spring. I hope you will comply with the directive,” he said.
