Homa Bay county women rep elect Gladys Wanga has faulted the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, for slashing Mps mileage allowances.
According to Wanga, SRC is on a mission to demean the legislative arm of government.
Wanga who is also the Parliamentary Service Commission member on Wednesday told the press that the action will reduce legislators to beggars.
"MPs will be humiliated and reduced to beggars like in the past where they depended on incentives from the executive," she said.
She accused SRC for heavily slashing the Mps' allowances without conducting a job evaluation.
"That gazette notice is not only in bad faith but it is also meant to demean MPs. We are neither demanding an increment nor will we arm-twist anyone", she noted.
SRC chaired by Sarah Serem on July 10, announced the changes in a move aimed to save taxpayers more than Sh8 billion annually.
The cut will affect all state officers including the president, deputy president, Mps and cabinet secretaries.
