Days after St. Anne’s Primary School pupils paralyzed transport along Jogoo road lamenting over increased accidents, the county government has swung into action to save the situation.

The pace of the vehicles using the road is now controlled by brand new bumps, two county traffic marshals and volunteers from the Sonko Rescue team.

“The teachers have no fear, the parents when they go to work now they wont fear because of the bumps now,” said one parent who spoke to the media.

“Tumeekewa bumps kwa hii shule, kwa sababu ata mtoto akifika nyumbani tulikua tunashukuru Mungu kwa sababu hizi gari za Kayole zinapelekwa vibaya, (We are glad for the erection of the bumps, initially it was bad and at the end of the day when you see you child safely home, was like a miracle,)” added another.

The road, which serves majority of the Eastland locals was on Wednesday a no-go zone, after the children barricaded the road, after one of their own was knocked down by a bus.

A traffic marshal had also been knocked down at the same spot, forcing the children to demonstrate calling for action.

“There is order now because the bumps have been erected, we are happy that it will bring some sanity on the road,” added another resident.

Residents here now hope that the latest measure will be a long-term solution in controlling the notorious matatus plying the route.
