The 88-student capacity dormitory popularly known as Dorm 10 was set ablaze at around 7.30 pm in the evening by a person whom the students allegedly saw running out of the compound.

There were no injuries recorded though no property was salvaged from the flames.

County Commissioner Fredrick Ndambuki confirmed the incident but assured the school fraternity that security had been restored and that learning would continue as planned.

On her part, Elgeyo Marakwet County Director of Education Ms Sabina Aroni intimated that the fire could be an arson attack from outsiders with negative motives.

Governor Alex Tolgos expressed his reservations for the incident and promised to lend a hand from the county government to ensure that learning continued uninterrupted.

Elsewhere, four other schools were burnt across the country on the same night.

Two dormitories were burnt at Kiini Girl's High school (Kirinyaga County), two more at Giakaibei Secondary (Nyeri County), one at Merti Girl's High School (Isiolo) and another dormitory at St Stephen Nkoitoi Secondary (Narok County).
