The killing of an unnamed hawker at Deputy President William Ruto's Sugoi home between Saturday and Sunday has raised more questions than answers, with Kenyans taking to various social media sites to give their opinions.
It is said that a machete-wielding intruder invaded Ruto's palace, passing the highly sophisticated, Israeli-trained Recce Squad officers and staying away from arrest for over 18 hours.
To start with, Recce squad is the one that managed to kill al Shaabab fighters in less than nine minutes during the Garrissa University college attack that led to the death of 150 students.
In Sunday, IG Joseph Boinnet denied that the intrusion was stage-managed and defended the time police officers took to thwart the attack.
“It was not stage-managed. The reason the operation took many hours is because we had to handle things clearly," Boinnet said during a Sunday presser.
According to the Star, a senior police officer said the officers deployed on the ground "took their time" to combat the threat as they targetted to minimise casualties and destruction.
“We used our brains, and deception, and finally killed him,” said a senior officer as quoted by the Star.
But there is controversy basing on the fact the Sugoi home had only two GSU officers on duty.
Like former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Ruto is guarded by 18 security officers from the GSU, Administration Police and Prisons Department.
Seven GSU officers also guard his homes with two police drivers picked from the Prisons Department and nine other APs.
Similarly, he has Recce squad officers as bodyguards.
