Officers from Mombasa County's Department of Health, Sub County Administration, religious organisations, Nacada, Kenya Red Cross, Reach Out Centre Trust, DSW together with other stakeholders met on Tuesday for a plan meeting for the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADA).
The day which is commemorated each year on June 26, serves as a reminder of the goals agreed to by member countries of creating an international society free of drug abuse.
The County in collaboration with Sub County Administration and partners, is planning a series of activities at the grassroots targeting drug users and other people who are affected to raise awareness of the major problem of illicit drugs in the society and its treatment.
Currently, the County Government of Mombasa is supporting the treatment of more than 700 former addicts with Methadone through its Medically Assisted Therapy (MAT) programme.
