The stalemate at the Kisumu County assembly ended, after acting Speaker Gabriel Ochieng agreed to step down in favour of deputy Speaker Pamela Omino.
There was a standoff after Ochieng declined to leave Omino to chair the session, after the latter came out of hospital.
This led the members to go for a ‘kamkunji’ where they agreed to let Omino to chair the session.
Speaking to the press after the ‘kamkunji’, Ochieng said that for peace to prevail, he had decided to step down.
Ochieng added that the constant wrangling is not good for the county, which he said is lagging behind in terms of development occasioned by the wrangling.
However he said he is the substantive Speaker.
Omino on her side said she is ready to lead the house without favour or fear, and will discharge her duties diligently.
She called for cooperation among the MCAs to allow the assembly to work for the electorates.
The assembly has been rocked with numerous wrangling in the recent past, with members in-fighting over the speaker’s post.
