Chief Amos Kamau of Ikinu Location has expressed concern over stalled projects in his area.
Among the projects that has sent shivers down the spine of the chief is Ikinu Fishing Pond that was launched under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) but which failed to take off.
Speaking at Ikinu Trading Centre on Tuesday to a group of youth who are willing to revive the stalled project, Kamau called for urgent rehabilitation of the project to address the challenges facing the local youth.
Kamau noted that the project collapsed due to mismanagement and called to those under public projects to exercise due caution to save taxpayers resources.
“The Ikinu Fishing Project was allocated Sh 150,000 with aim of helping youth to earn a living but mismanagement contributed to its failure,” said Kamau.
He added, “Those appointed to hold public offices and oversee public projects should portray high degree integrity,” added Kamau.
The chief urged the county government to help in reviving the project to ensure the local youth have steady income.
John Mwangi, a youth from Ikinu said that the project would address the issue of unemployment among the youth once revived.
“The project will employ more youth in the various fields including transporting fish to major town and supplying fingerlings to the project,” said Mwangi.
The chief also urged the county government of Kiambu to launch more vibrant projects to help local youth.
