The standoff between engineers and technicians at the Kenya Airways has taken a fresh twist, after the company advertised for vacant positions.
The company has advertised the positions after they sacked over 140 employees after they went on strike over pay.
“Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for engineers and technicians,” KQ said in a notice on Friday.
Employees in charge of base and line maintenance, technical workshops, cabin and in-flight entertainment, multi-crew cooperation, and technical assistance are some of those who have been shown the door from the leading airline in the region.
The company has given all interested candidates until December 15 to apply, with the details available on the company’s website.
The dismissal was a culmination of a go-slow that started on Wednesday, as the employees pushed for the increment of salaries, which threatened the operations at the busy airport.
In a letter to chief executive Sebastian Mikosz on November 16, the technical team said the matter was resolved by the board in December last year and funds released, but the officers responsible have not released the funds as expected.
