Kisumu County Side, Kisumu All-Stars’ quest to book a Kenya Premier League (KPL) spot at the end of this year suffered a major blow on Monday, after a 2-1 loss to Nakuru based St Joseph Youth in a National Super League (NSL) match.
The Coach Nickanor Aketch led side needed a win against St Joseph Youth at the Afraha stadium, in order to revive hopes of a KPL spot but that was not to be.
The Kisumu side is now 11th on the 19th teams NSL table with 26 points after nine matches. They have won seven, settled for draws in five matches and lost seven.
Kisumu All Stars was formed towards the end of last year and replaced Palos FC in the National Super League.
Palos folded up due to lack of funds.
Over the weekend, Ushuru FC moved top of the NSL table after previous leaders Western Stima were held to a 0-0 by Modern Coast Rangers in Mombasa. Ken Kenyatta’s Ushuru FC lead the table with 38 points, one ahead of Stima.
Nairobi Stima, KCB, and Bidco United are 3rd, 4th and 5th with 35, 33 and 31 points respectively.
Top two teams will automatically qualify for KPL action next year, while the third team will play against third last team in the KPL in a two-legged play-off match in order to book a KPL spot.
