Omwansa lamented that most residents and institutions do not have water storage materials.

Speaking to this writer in his office, Omwansa observed that the current water shortages witnessed in the area should have not been witnessed if residents have been conserving water.

"It is interesting that Kisii residents are endowed with water resources and favourable climate, but they are the worst hit by water scarcity challenges during long droughts," said Omwansa.

He said that the current situation should serve as a wake up call to local communities, institutions and policy makers to start intensifying rain water harvesting strategies to avert water scarcity in future.

Omwansa noted that there is untapped potential in the water sector, which local communities need to exploit and turn it into an enterprising sector.
