The race for the Changamwe parliamentary seat is beginning to hot up with aspirants questioning MP Omar Mwinyi's development record.
Wiper Party aspirant Peterson Mitau who has declared interest in the seat, said area residents are suffering because of poor leadership, adding that Mwinyi should be voted out.
Speaking during the issuance of bursaries to needy students in the area, Mitau accused the legislator of engaging in politics instead of helping residents.
"This is evidence that the MP has failed. Some bright needy students have failed to join secondary school because of neglect by Mr Mwinyi. We are telling him to start packing," said Mitau, as quoted by The Star..
Mitau who unsuccessfully ran for the seat in 2013 and 2007 is believed to be banking on the support of the Kambu community to rise to power.
Mwinyi who is an ODM MP, is facing stiff competition, as the seat has attracted eight other candidates.
However, analysts say his perceived closeness to Governor Joho may tilt the scales in his favour.
