Addressing journalist at Mlolongo, Machakos County on Friday, the Hindu Council of Kenya led by its national chairman, Nitin Malde, said most of the government departments and agencies harass Hindu communities.

Malde cited clearance at various Kenyan Airports where he said people of Indian origin find difficulties to have their visas approved as opposed to Chinese.

He said the government should recognise that the Hindu Community played major roles in fighting for independence for this nation.

“Indians are harassed while the government is silent despite the fact that they participated in the fight for this country’s independence, where were the Chinese then?” lamented Malde.

He said as a business community, Indians have great impact on the Kenyan economy as they dominate in all sectors in business industry employing largest number of Kenyans.

The chairman regretted that security issue was also a threat to the community stating that most investors close down businesses and return to their countries as a result.

He said there was unfair trade practice between Chinese and Indians, given that the former neither got harassed nor had visa problems.

The council therefore called on the government to intervene so as to ensure aversion in plight of Indian communities in this country.
