Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo wants the national government to increase bursary funds being given to schools.

The MP notes that increasing the funds Kiambu will enable more students to benefit.

She said that bursary funds have helped many students to complete and continue with their education across the country.

“There is need for the government to channel more money to the bursary kitty,” she observed.

Gathogo on the same note asked the national government to invest more in the education sector.

She said that education remains an important sector that needs government and donor support.

The MP noted that education should be made accessible to all Kenyans adding that the government should quickly fast-track the proposal to have free secondary education.

Gathogo however expressed fears that despite the existence of bursary many students are not willing to apply for them.

She said there is need for students especially those from the needy backgrounds to be sensitised and told the importance of the bursary fund.

The MP called on needy and bright students from the constituency to apply for bursary funds.

She said that some of the beneficiaries have already been given the money and are in school.
