The government has been urged to come up with better measures and policies to guarantee the security of Kenyans in the wake of multiple terror threats.
Addressing residents at the 64 Stadium at Eldoret to mark Jamhuri day, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said that persistent threats to security would scare away investors.
He said that the government must come up with ways of addressing terror threats and general crime.
“Continued terror threats in some parts of the country would scare away investors and negative impact on the economy as a result,” said Mandago.
Mandago noted that security is critical and it should be the government’s first priority adding President Uhuru Kenyatta should not tolerate lazy officers.
The governor said that security agencies and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) must work extra hard to guarantee Kenyans of their safety.
The governor at the same time supported the proposed changes on the security laws saying that they will help address terrorism.
Mandago said the fight against terrorism should be fought by every citizen and every nation in the East Africa region and across the world.
He observed that intentions of Al Shabaab militia group are to create a religious war between Christians and Muslims.
County Commissioner Abdi Hassan asked residents to support the government to maintain order.
He warned criminals saying their days are numbered unless they surrenderd to the police.
“We have put in place appropriate measures to guarantee safety of locals across Uasin Gishu County,” he said.
The commissioner who read President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech at the county Jamhuri day celebrations said security will be beefed up across the county during and after this festive season.
