The government has distanced itself from allegations that there is a plot to assassinate Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
The Coast kingpin, who recently rejected security guards assigned to him, claimed that the government was hatching a plan to spy on him and plant illegal substances in his residence.
According to The Star, governor claimed that the State wants to assassinate him, his supporters and a section of opposition leaders
Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki has however refuted the claims.
Speaking on Wednesday in Mombasa, Achoki asked the governor to launch a formal complaint instead of speaking about the issue in public rallies.
“The government’s priority is not to plan how to execute politicians, but to ensure all citizens and their property are safeguarded,” said Achoki, as quoted by the daily.
The commissioner further asked other leaders who feel threatened, to record a statement with the police for investigations to be conducted.
“If there is a leader who feels there is a threat to his life, the law requires them to report the matter to the nearest police station for investigations,” he added.
