As the World marked Media Freedom Day on Wednesday, the Kenyan government said it is devoted to protect members of the fourth estate from any form of harassment.
Addressing stakeholders at the KICC in Nairobi, ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru noted that the Jubilee administration had put in place measures that would see the perpetrators get punished.
“Reported instances where journalists have been harassed and killed in the line of duty are unacceptable,” Mucheru noted.
The CS added that the government would support journalists despite of their watchdog role in the society.
“The government is determined to protect the media space and will take punitive measures on those who harass journalists,” he added, Wednesday.
