Lamu County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo has confirmed that the government has donated relief food to the community living in Boni.Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Kitiyo said his office has received more than 2000 bags of relief food to be distributed to the community members. The county commissioner said the bags of maize, rice, beans, and cartons of cooking fat will be distributed this week. “We have received over 2000 bags of food which we intend to give to the Boni, IDPs and those in drought prone areas here in Lamu. The national government shall continue to render help to these people until they are okay,” said Kitiyo, as quoted by Baraka FM.The delivery of the consignment comes two days after the community living in Boni criticised the government for halting a food programme that was initiated in 2015 following the launch of Operation Linda Boni.Kitiyo has however assured the community that the government was committed to ensuring they receive the assistance they require. The food will be distributed in Bargoni, Basuba, Mangai, Pandanguo Mararani, Milimani and Kiangwe, among other areas.
