The Transport Ministry has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the company that won the tender to tarmac the Lunga Lunga-Vanga Road in Kwale County.

Transport and Infrastructure Principal Secretary John Mosonik said Monday that End to End Construction Company had also been given six months to complete construction works along the road.President Uhuru Kenyatta during his last tour of Kwale County on May 26 launched construction works for the loose surface road.Uhuru has been touring the country launching multiple development projects as he seeks to convince Kenyans to vote for him on August 8.The Head of State is under pressure to deliver on its 2013 campaign pledges which include extending electricity to more homes and institutions, build roads, procure and supply laptop computers to all Class One pupils as well as cut the cost of agricultural production by supplying subsidized fertilizer and other farm inputs to farmers.According to the PS, no work has been done on the road despite the president having launched it about a month ago.“I am really perturbed by the slow works on this road,” he told journalists while on a tour of the project on Monday.“I have given him seven days to start the work or we terminate the contract. And terminating here means he will never get any other contract in the ministry or other State agencies,” he added.Kwale where the road is located is an opposition stronghold and the President is doing everything possible to woo residents to vote for the ruling Jubilee Party. The road is in Lunga Lunga constituency represented by Khatib Mwashetani who was elected on an ODM ticket in 2013 but decamped to Jubilee Party last year.Kwale is also headed by Governor Salim Mvurya who ditched the opposition and joined the ruling party. Aspirants in Coast region vying for various elective seats on Jubilee Party tickets are under pressure to rally residents in Uhuru’s support.
