A total of 445 elderly residents from Ruiru sub-county have received cash amounting to Sh4.45 million from the government’s cash transfer programme.
Ruiru social development officer Mercy Kinoti revealed that the people whose names did not appear in the current list may be shortlisted next time.
She added that next time, the funds will be given to those who have not yet received the money, but are qualified to receive it.
Kinoti said that she received a list with more than 700 people but 538 names were returned for validation. She said that later, a list of the 445 beneficiaries was sent to them.
She added that the selection was not done at the sub-county or the county but from the headquarters. She said that she did not know the criteria used to arrive at the beneficiaries.
Kinoti revealed that people living with children who are working, those under pension and those who have a source of income, do not qualify for the fund.
She, however, urged the community to be patient as the ministry worked to have every qualified person benefit.
